How NOT to mount a Projector

My biggest annoyance in my job is having to correct other peoples/company's mistakes!!! Especially when there is clearly no need for it. I went out to a small primary school to replace a projector and straight away the alarm bells were ringing. I noticed straight away the suspended ceiling was bowed in along 5 tiles. Upon closer inspection I noticed this.....

This mount is sat on a piece of MDF on top of the ceiling tile. If you look at the bottom right hand side of the picture you can clearly see where the ceiling matrix has started to buckle. The only thing preventing the entire mount from falling down was a security wire attached to a girder above the ceiling.......

The picture on the right hand side is how it should be done. Two 40mm x 40mm boxed channel rails secured to girders and then using zebedee's and M6 bolts you secure the mounting plate and work your way down. Its not rocket science. Forty minutes work and its secured correctly and looks a whole lot better then Mr Bodge it and leg It's attempt does!!!

New and improved!!!!

Hitachi UST projectors just got a whole lot more compact. The new ED-A220N is about a third smaller in size than its predecessor the ED-A100/101. The mounting system that is supplied with the new model is far superior to its predecessor. More robust and with much more movement. I installed two in an hour an half on my own!!!

Half term works

Nice simple de install/reinstall here. A small Primary needed to move a full classroom IWB setup due to the existing classroom being knocked down and extended. Apart from a new 10m cable kit all the equipment was reused.

Bits n Bats

How to turn a wall into a couple of computer stations??? Easy with a bit of triple compartment dado trunking, some Cat5e cable, spirit level and assorted fixings. This was installed in a nursery to help utilise unused space.

Value for money

Great news for any school out there that has projectors that need replacing. Hitachi will be offering a 5yr unit warranty and 6yr lamp warranty on selected projectors purchased between 01/02/2011 and 29/04/2011. These will be standard priced units, so this is exceptional value for money.

Beats the previous 3yr lamp and unit warranty hands down!! The potential saving in cost of new lamps is quite impressive on its own.

The loss of a legend

Well guys we've reached the end of another year and a pretty successful one for the installs team. We are now off until the 4th of January. As good as this year has been we end it on a sad note.....the legend that is Mr Simon Pawlowski has left us.....sigh.

Si is moving on to pastures new with HM Forces and we wish him all the best for the future and may he stay safe on operational duties. His off the cuff thinking and humour will be missed.....his inability to answer his phone or be on time will not!!!

We do have a direct replacement for him and it could not be more direct......his identical twin brother Dan. This is not a wind up...you just cant make this stuff up.

Anyway ill sign off for this year and wish you all a Merry Christmas and a fantastic new year from all the team at Primary Technology.
